“Boys will be boys.” “GIRLFIGHT!” “‘Real’ men don’t cry.” “‘Rape’ is just sex that women regret.” Those are myths. They’re cultural assumptions and attitudes that reinforce rigid norms about gender: about how and who girls and boys and women and men are “supposed” to be.
PROBLEM: gender norms do real harm. They confine us to labels, limiting or shaming who we really are or want to be. Tacitly or outright, they also condone gender-based discrimination and violence. Violence that, according to the CDC , affects about 1 in 3 women and nearly 1 in 6 men throughout their lifetimes.
SOLUTION: Break through those norms. Breakthrough provides tools for people like you to challenge those norms and stand for something better for everyone.
