It was “The Fight of the Century.”

Floyd “Money” Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao. Mayweather earned at least $180 million in just one night. Thousands of people paid $99 to watch on pay-per-view.

There was just one problem. Or seven.

Floyd Mayweather is a repeat domestic violence offender. Over 12 years he has been arrested or cited in 7 assaults on 5 different women.* He has been convicted, pled guilty, and spent time in prison.

He has never been suspended from professional boxing. Other pro boxers have been suspended for smoking pot.

*That’s not counting the times police were called in response to threatened violence.

So, on May 2, we asked you to do literally anything else.

And you did. Hundreds of you pledged to spend your valuable time and money on things that don’t support impunity for violence. Hundreds of thousands of you saw and echoed the call on social media. Millions heard our collective message via Newsweek, The Daily Beast, Yahoo! News, and more.

Pro sports did not send the message that domestic violence is unacceptable. We did.

Together, we can drive the conversation. We can hold individuals and institutions accountable. We can help keep pro sports as honest and awesome as they should be. We can continue to make culture change happen.

Not sure what to do now? Here are some ideas.

1. Read all the awesome press on #noMayPac!

2. Read up—and share—info about domestic violence.

3. Make a donation to an organization working to prevent domestic violence. That’s us. Each $99 can train 1 new leader to campaign for safety and equality for all. $9 wouldn’t hurt either.
